VOA Turns 130!

Marking 130 years of Volunteers of America

On March 8 we celebrate 130 years of Volunteers of America — a major milestone in a legacy of compassion. Founded in 1896 by Ballington and Maud Booth, VOA’s mission to reach and uplift people in need drives action from coast to coast. At VOA Southeast, we are committed to carrying that mission forward, working every day to transform lives across Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi.

VOA’s impact is a legacy of comprehensive care: housing that turns instability into opportunity, recovery programs that restore hope, and veteran services that honor sacrifice with tangible support, and dedciated support for people with developmental disabilities empowering independence, connection, and true sense of belonging.. Our team connects families with benefits and jobs, blends clinical care with peer support for those in recovery, and creates safe, permanent places where children can thrive and adults can rebuild.

We listen to those we serve, mobilize partners, and scale community-based solutions that work. Every bed filled, every recovery plan launched, and every veteran housed is a victory born of nationwide conviction and local determination. Those lives changed are the proof.

As VOA marks 130 years, VOA Southeast calls on everyone to join the charge. Celebrate with us on Giving Day — give, share the stories that matter, volunteer your time, and stand shoulder to shoulder . When donors, volunteers, and partners unite, services grow, outcomes improve, and hope spreads faster.

Here’s How You Can Celebrate Giving Day with Us:

  • Give generously. Your gift powers recovery, affordable housing, veteran support, and life-changing programs across our region.
  • Share the mission. Post, text, or email someone about why VOA Southeast matters to you.
  • Tell a story of hope. Share a message about healing, resilience, or belonging that inspires others to give.
  • Volunteer your time. Explore opportunities to serve and make a hands-on impact.
  • Invite others to join you. Encourage friends, family, and colleagues to be part of bringing healing and hope to those we serve.

Support our mission today so together we can continue this 130-year legacy of compassionate care that give the people we serve dignity, stability, and the opportunity for a better life.
