A Night to Remember: VOA Southeast Residents Shine at the Celebrate Me Prom

Trenton, GA– On Thursday, July 18, 2024, VOA Southeast hosted the Celebrate Me Prom, for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Northwest Georgia, which took place at the beautiful Coal City Bluff from 5:00-8:00 pm. This special event was a resounding success thanks to the generous support of local businesses and community members.

Kim Gregg, Director of IDD Services at VOA Southeast, recently appeared on News Channel 9 ABC’s “The Daily Refresh” to discuss the event. Coal City Bluff generously donated their venue for the evening, providing a stunning backdrop for this special celebration. Linda Meins, the residential assistant, along with Ashton Kramer and Hallie Winesburgh, both residential trainers, meticulously planned the event for several months, ensuring every detail contributed to a magical experience.

The prom featured an array of delicious food including sliders, pizza, fruit, chips, and delectable desserts such as cupcakes, cookie cake, and cinnamon rolls. Guests enjoyed their meals with bottled water, sodas, and sparkling juice. The lively atmosphere was further enhanced by music courtesy of Jasmine Johnson, a dedicated team member, and volunteers Isabella Johnson and Dezzi Blanchard. The highlight of the evening was a VOA Southeast team member performing the Macarena, which added an extra touch of fun.

Special attention was given to capturing the memorable moments of the night. Dezzi Blanchard, who volunteered her time and photography skills, documented the evening’s festivities, including the residents’ dance moves and elegant attire. The prom concluded with the crowning of the VOA Prom King and Queen, with a resident from Lafayette named King and a resident from Trenton named Queen.

The Celebrate Me Prom was an unforgettable celebration, honoring the unique talents and individuality of the residents and providing them with a cherished prom experience.
