A Conversation with LaShaunda Wells:
We had the pleasure of sitting down with LaShaunda to learn more about what motivates her, how she incorporates VOA Southeast’s core values into her work, and the advice she has for others who wish to make a lasting impact. Here’s what she shared with us:
What motivates you to go above and beyond in your role as Property Manager?
I approach my work with the same care and dedication as I would my own home, striving to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for the residents. I am deeply committed to serving others, recognizing that many residents rely on me to maintain a high standard of living. Every property I manage reflects both my efforts and the dedication of the VOA staff, ensuring that each space is well-maintained and inviting. I value the vibrancy and individuality of my residents and strive to enhance their quality of life through genuine smiles, meaningful conversations, a strong professional work ethic, and a compassionate listening ear. I approach my role with consideration for the care and attention I want for myself and my loved ones.
How do you see VOA Southeast’s core values reflected in the work you do every day?
I align my work with the core values that not only guide my professional responsibilities but also reflect who I am as a person. I strive to embody trustworthiness, respect, empathy, creativity, and a natural aptitude for problem-solving. I believe seniors deserve a dedicated advocate, and I am committed to understanding and addressing their needs to the best of my ability. Representing the VOA community with excellence and integrity is always my top priority.
What advice would you give to others in the organization who want to make a positive impact?
I would advise embracing a heart of service for those considering working with VOA and the public. A guiding principle for me is Colossians 3:23: ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.’ Approach the role with good intentions, strong morals, and a solid work ethic. Be open-minded and ready to interact with a diverse group of people, always bringing a positive attitude to work. This fosters an environment where residents and coworkers feel supported and valued. Take the time to understand your residents and your job responsibilities thoroughly. Transparency and establishing a professional communication system are key to building trust and ensuring effectiveness. Ultimately, success in this role comes from a commitment to serving others with excellence and purpose.
LaShaunda’s dedication and care for her residents and colleagues make her a true asset to VOA Southeast. We are grateful for her service and the difference she makes every day in the lives of those we support.
